Elegant Sweet & Savory Butter Board
A sweet and savory butter board! One half is sweet with roasted grapes, honey, walnuts, and jams. The other savory with a roasted garlic and dill herbed whipped butter. Serve with an assortment of breads like I do. This butter board is elegant, pretty, and would make a great addition to your next party.

I never thought I would jump on a viral tik tok trend like this one — the butter board.
I never thought I would be slightly envious of someone coming up with this before me. I mean, I make my own butter. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who eat more butter than I do.
But here we are.
The sweet side of the butter board has honey, roasted grapes drizzled with olive oil, walnuts, and small bowls of jam. It’s served with a plain seeded sourdough bread as well as one made with dried apricots and raisins.
The savory side has butter whipped with roasted garlic, fresh dill, sea salt, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and dried onion powder. It is served with an olive sourdough bread.
And I think I will make this again for Thanksgiving or Christmas as it went fast and everyone loved it.

Ingredients
sweet side
- unsalted butter, room temperature & whipped
- grapes, roasted
- honey
- olive oil
- walnuts (or pecans)
- jams (apricot, fig & strawberry)
- breads (plain & sweet breads studded with fruits and spices)
savory side
- butter, room temperature & whipped
- fresh herbs (I use dill)
- roasted garlic
- sea salt
- microgreens
- breads (plain and savory like cheesy bread, olive bread etc.)
See recipe card for quantities.
Equipment
- wooden board to use as a base (a large platter will suffice too)
- silicone spatula (what I use here) or off-set spatula for spreading the butter
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit. Drizzle grapes with olive oil and place on baking sheet. Roast until they start to wrinkle, once done remove tray from oven and allow grapes to completely cool.
Meanwhile whip room temperature butter with a hand mixer until it becomes smooth and airy.
First divide the butter block in half and place each half in its own bowl
Whip each half of the butter.
To one half stir in your roasted garlic, fresh herbs, spices.
Using a silicon spatula (what I’m using in the picture) or an offset spatula, swirl your butter on one side of the board. Leaving a channel in the center (for some of your bread and dippers) make a similar design with butter on the lower half of the board as well. One side will be sweet and the other savory.
For the sweet side: drizzle honey, add chopped walnuts or pecans. Add the completely cooled roasted grapes. Add the sweet and plain breads and other dippers.
For the savory side: sprinkle with sea salt. I added these spicy purple radish microgreens for some more color and visual interest.
Add your breads.
In small bowls add any additional sides like jams, jellies, preserves, olives, etc.
Substitutions, Additions & Variations
Possibilities here are endless.
Here are just some ideas:
- roasted cherry tomatoes
- everything bagel seasoning
- maple syrup
Use cake decorating tips to make pretty butter designs like flowers, same as you would on cakes with buttercream.
Make a buttercream frosting board!
I love to make cakes and serve glazes and frostings on the side for variety! For example my old-fashioned fresh apple cake recipe or my pumpkin bundt cake.
Storage
This is obviously not going to store well past the day/night you are serving it.
You can try scraping the butter off into a covered bowl if anything remains.
Do not freeze.
Top Tips
Roasted grapes are insanely good. They go very well with both the sweet and the savory sides of this party butter board.
FAQ
A butter board is like any snack board or appetizer platter. You’ve likely been around charcuterie and cheese boards, so why not this? Who doesn’t love butter with bread? And toppings like honey and jam? Quite frankly, what is the point of anything?
Butter is rich in vitamins and minerals and depending on the other toppings and sides, this is a perfectly healthy party/appetizer food to enjoy. Regardless, it’s not like you are going to be eating something like this daily. Even I don’t love butter that much and I make the stuff.
