Life on a homestead involves learning all sorts of new skills and acquiring new knowledge. Homestead skills are practical things like learning how to butcher your own ducks, to how to properly store vegetables in a root cellar, or how to properly store grain for long-term storage.
Homesteading is also about the knowledge of growing your own food in a garden, raising animals for meat and/or eggs, preserving that food by fermenting and canning — and cooking it. If you’re a homesteader you probably need to know how to raise chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, or any number of other animals — like guinea fowl.
