Warm Vanilla Custard Milk Drink
This warm vanilla custard milk drink is how I both start and end my day. This warm milk beverage tastes like custard and it’s full of nutritious ingredients. Best of all its versatile ingredients-wise (you can customize it), it tastes great for adults and children alike, and is very quick and simple to make.

Warm vanilla custard milk drink is made with milk heated up to the point right before boiling and various spices and other ingredients.
I’ve been starting and ending my day with a mug of this for YEARS and now my toddler does too. This beverage also played a huge role in both of my pregnancies and postpartum/breastfeeding periods since it’s just so incredibly nourishing.
The secret ingredient that makes it taste like custard (or cake batter) and even more nutritious? Eggs.
That’s right — at the very end, this milk is removed from the heat and poured into a blender right before raw eggs and/or egg yolks are added. If that sounds weird, I’m begging you to just give it a try.
The raw egg is cooked from the heat of the milk the way a traditional custard would be.

Warm vanilla custard milk drink is actually incredibly versatile too because you can customize the spices and ingredients to your liking. You can even add a shot of espresso!

Hot spiced milk is best enjoyed on its own but it also pairs beautifully with a decadent dessert like my old-fashioned fresh apple cake, my sourdough pumpkin cake or pumpkin spice bundt cake, or even my sourdough cinnamon rolls.
Ingredients
- Milk | whole milk is preferred. I always use raw, grassfed milk.
- Eggs + additional yolk | technically optional but just TRY something different for once in your life!
- Vanilla Extract
- Honey or Maple Syrup | Sweeten to taste however you prefer. Maple sugar is a nice sub.
- Cinnamon | or chocolate, pumpkin spice, or nutmeg, or turmeric OR whatever you like!
- Sea salt | just a pinch to contrast and enhance the sweetness.
- Collagen Optional, but a great way to make this nutritious beverage even more so.

I prefer to use whole raw milk (try it with goat or sheep milk too), pastured eggs and egg yolks, and I also love to add collagen to mine too.
Instructions
This could not be simpler to make.
- Warm up the milk in a medium saucepan, making sure it does not boil.
- Pour the hot or warm milk into the blender.
- Add spices and other ingredients.
- Turn the blender on.
- With the blender running, add raw whole egg and yolk. You can also only add an egg yolk or stick to one whole egg.
Substitutions & Variations
- no eggs – instead of eggs that turn hot milk into something decadent and even more nutritious, leave them out because you don’t trust me (sad face).
- yolks only – feel free to omit the whites and use only egg yolks.
- pumpkin spice – make this into a pumpkin spice hot milk!
- coffee shot – add a shot of espresso in the morning instead of having your usual latte, foam this milk instead.
- cocoa – turn this into gourmet hot chocolate by adding cocoa into it.
- maple – use maple syrup instead of honey or even maple sugar.
- high calorie meal replacer – add a tablespoon of butter and/or coconut oil.

Top Tips
- Pour finished milk from blender into your mug through a fine mesh colander for the smoothest drink.
- Store in the refrigerator and enjoy cold.
- Once cold, you can also blend with ice.
Warm Vanilla Custard Milk Drink
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 whole egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon OR whatever spice or spice blend you prefer nutmeg, pumpkin spice, cardamom etc.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt
- Honey to taste start with 1 teaspoon
- 1 tablespoon collagen optional
Instructions
- Over medium heat, warm up the milk in a medium saucepan, making sure it does not boil.
- Once hot, pour the hot or warm milk into a blender.
- Add spices and other ingredients (excluding the egg)
- Turn the blender on.
- With the blender running add your egg and yolk, turn it up to medium (if possible) and let run for 30 seconds.
- Pour milk through fine mesh colander into mug and serve.
